JBDC Dance Classes:
Where we host our lessons:
All of our lessons are held in the aerobics room at the Jackson Sport & Fitness Center, 1068 Vann Drive, Jackson, TN. This facility is across the street from the Olive Garden restaurant (turn off Vann Drive immediately beside the Sonic Drive-In). Please inform the staff at the reception desk in the entrance area of the center that you are there for the dance lessons, and they will direct you to the classroom.
Monday Night Intro-to-Ballroom Dance lessons:
These lessons (we call them "Ballroom 101") are taught by club volunteers and are intended to introduce the concepts of ballroom dancing to people who are relatively new to the hobby-sport. Each month features a different dance (we teach eight different dances: waltz, foxtrot, rumba, etc.), about which the student will learn the basic pattern, frame, and some fundamental technique. Additionally, we will discuss good ballroom dance etiquette and other tips and pointers to help newcomers feel more comfortable in the ballroom setting.
7:30 - 8:45 p.m. each Monday night (note: if the fitness center is closed or closes early for, say weather or holidays, we will NOT be having dance class that night. Check our website for updates, or simply call Jackson Sport Fitness to find out if they are open that night.)
Upcoming Ballroom 101 (Monday nights) Dance Lessons (2018):
March - Merengue & BONUS -> West Coast Swing
April - American Waltz
May - Night Club Two-Step
Cost for these lessons:
Non-Dance Club Members: $2
Jackson Ballroom Dance Club Members: $1
Members of Jackson Sport and Fitness: No Cost
(We are often asked why these costs are so low. The reason: the people in our club simply want to introduce ballroom dancing to the West Tennessee area in hopes that others will also experience the joy of this wonderful hobby-sport. Ours is a non-profit club, and since these Ballroom 101 classes are taught by club volunteers who are not certified ballroom dance instructors, we feel it is improper and unprofessional to make a profit off of our friends and neighbors by charging an instruction fee. Thus, we only collect the minimum amount necessary to pay for the rental of the classroom.)
Tuesday Night Intermediate Ballroom Dance:
On alternate Tuesdays we host a professional, certified ballroom dance instructor who works with us on all things ballroom - styling, technique, movement, posture, patterns, moves, and more. The cost for those "instruction" nights is $13 each for non-Jackson Sport Fitness members, $12 for members of Jackson Ballroom Dance Club, and $11 for members of JSF.
Then, on the other Tuesday nights, we review the material that we learned from the instructor the previous Tuesday night. Plus, we also work on intermediate level dance skills from professional dance instructors who teach ballroom dancing via digital video classes. The professional instructors perform each series of dance moves from various angles and perform both the man's and the woman's dance steps. The video teaching method allows repeated playback of each dance move until all feel confident with their ability to perform each dance step. The current dance is actually the "building blocks" of dancing, a subject EVERY dancer should have early in his or her dance career.
The dance club only charges a minimum amount per person to pay for the video lessons and for the use of the facility.
Friday Night Practice Parties: The Dance club teaches a 45 minute complimentary dance lesson from 7:00 to 7:45, with the night's dance music playing 7:45-10:00. Only $6 per JBDC member ($8 for non-members) for the night, including the lesson and the dance.
Most Friday evenings, we host our dance parties at the VFW Post 6496, 285 Airways Blvd. These casual dances provide great opportunities to sharpen your dance skills, try out those dance moves that you have recently learned in class elsewhere, or simply enjoy the evening with friends. The VFW has an adequately-sized dance floor and ample seating to accommodate well over 100 guests. The spacious parking lot is well lit with semi-controlled access.
Join us for fun, food, and dance in a safe, smoke-free, family-friendly environment. Bring a dish, bring a friend, and dance the night away! Come at 7:00 for a 45-minute complimentary dance lesson. The evening's dance begins at 7:45 and lasts until 10:00. Only $6 for the night (for JBDC members. $8 for non-members), which includes the lesson and the dance.
For Friday Dance Party dates please check our JBDC 2018 Dance Schedule.

Ballroom Dance Galas-
Three times per year, winter, summer, and fall, JBDC hosts special dance galas. These are more dressy affairs, and they are evenings filled with music, dancing, food, and fellowship. Most often, these events are held at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, and they are always on a Saturday night.
These galas are advertised on our club calendar, in Footnotes, on The Jackson Sun website, in the Get Out section of the paper, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Occasionally, the music is from a live band/orchestra group. Cost for these events varies depending on whether a meal is served, but it usually falls in the $12-$15 range.
