Intermediate / Advanced Lesson

Tuesdays  •  7:45-8:30 pm

Our intermediate and advanced lesson is designed for dancers who already know some ballroom basics and are ready to keep growing. This class gives students the opportunity to build on foundational skills while learning new patterns, technique, styling, and movement across a variety of ballroom, Latin, swing, and social dance styles.

Each month typically focuses on a featured dance, allowing dancers to go deeper with timing, lead-and-follow connection, musicality, floor movement, and confidence in a social dance setting.

This lesson is a good fit for dancers who have attended beginner lessons, have some previous dance experience, or feel comfortable learning at a slightly faster pace. It is also a great way to prepare for practice dances, formal events, and other social dance opportunities with Jackson Ballroom Dance Club.

What to Expect Your First Night

Your first visit does not need to be complicated. Come a few minutes early, wear comfortable clothes, and choose shoes that will stay on your feet and move easily on the floor. You do not need special dance shoes.

Most people feel a little nervous the first time. That is normal. Your first lesson is free, so you can come try it out, meet a few people, and see if JBRDC is a good fit for you. Our goal is to make the evening friendly, helpful, and fun.

You can come by yourself, with a friend, or with a spouse or partner.

No Experience Needed

The beginner lesson is designed for people who are still learning the basics.

You do not need formal clothes. Wear something comfortable that allows you to move.

Learn at a Comfortable Pace

We teach step by step so you can build confidence as you go.

Lesson FAQs

Do I need a partner?

No. Many people attend by themselves. During lessons, dancers may rotate partners depending on the class format, which helps everyone learn.

Do I need special shoes?

No. For your first visit, wear comfortable shoes that stay securely on your feet. Shoes with a smooth sole are usually easier to dance in than sticky athletic shoes.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably. Most weekly lessons are casual. You do not need formal ballroom attire.

Am I too old or too young to start?

No. Ballroom dancing is enjoyed by adults of many ages and experience levels.

Can I just watch first?

Yes, but we encourage you to try the lesson. It is much easier to learn by joining in, and the beginner class is designed to be welcoming.

What styles do you teach?

Lessons may include ballroom, Latin, swing, and social dance styles such as waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, tango, swing, and more.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, Venmo, and credit/debit cards for weekly lessons and most club activities.

Do I need to register ahead of time?

No. Walk-ins are welcome for our lessons and dances. You do not need to register in advance — just come a few minutes early, check in, and join the class. There is a quick waiver to fill out. If you want to do that a head of time you can submit it HERE.
